Survey Results Indicate an Increase in US Passport Applications

Forty–four percent of those who currently do not hold a passport are planning on obtaining one according to surveys conducted by GO Airport Express, a Chicago-based ground transportation service and GO Airport Shuttle, an international transportation provider. This is in response to the Real ID Act where some states’ drivers’ licenses soon might not meet regulations for air travel, even within the U.S.

Of the 394 respondents, 86 percent noted they already have valid passports. Of those who didn’t, 19 percent said they did not plan on getting one, while 37 percent weren’t sure, as of the survey date. The most common reason for doing so was due to a lack of travel frequency.

“As security issues remain a concern for both global and domestic travel, having stricter standards and more uniform identification documents become necessary,” says John McCarthy, president, GO Airport Express.

GO Airport Express, one of the oldest companies in Chicago, traces its founding to 1853 and the Parmelee Transportation Company, which provided a carriage service between Chicago’s railroad stations and the downtown hotels. The GO Group LLC is the nation’s largest airport transportation provider, serving some 60 airports in North America, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe and transporting more than 13 million passengers per year.
