The city’s crown jewel is an iconic symbol of independence for the United States. Located in the Liberty Bell Center in Independence National Historic Park, the bell was commissioned in 1752 in England before being shipped to America. Once here, it received its iconic crack after being rung shortly after arrival. It was used to summon lawmakers and alert citizens to public meetings.
A mere few hundred years ago, this was the site of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and where the Constitution was adopted. While the documents are now living in Washington DC’s National Archives, Independence Hall is still a national treasure, and houses an entertaining interactive hologram of Philadelphia native Benjamin Franklin.
