Boston offers the Waterfront Performing Arts Series in the scenic Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. The venue showcases various artistic genres including opera, classical music, musical theater and dance. The Boston Public Library’s Concerts in the Courtyard Series offers free lunchtime concerts through Aug. 29 featuring live music ranging from classical to contemporary.
Faust Park, in Chesterfield, Mo. located 21 miles west of St. Louis offers a series of concerts for 10 weeks during the summer, sponsored by the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce. The family-friendly park covers nearly 200 acres and also offers a playground, hiking trails, the St. Louis Carousel and a Butterfly House.
Located in the Dallas Arts District, the AT&T Performing Arts Center presents programs year-round in its indoor and outdoor spaces including dance, opera and Broadway Shows as well as community performances.
San Francisco offers many options, including the Stern Grove Festival Association with free shows in an intimate, forest-like setting. The Yerba Buena Garden Festival hosts over 100 performances of music, theater plus art exhibits during lunchtime and evening from May through Oct.
Chicago’s Millennium Park showcases some of the best urban design and public art in the country and is home to the Grant Park Music Festival in the Frank Gehry-designed Pritzker Pavilion where a variety of free concerts are hosted all summer long. After the show on Wednesdays and Saturdays, stay and watch the fireworks display over Navy Pier.
Attendees at The Lawn at White River Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. can stroll and chat while enjoying the bands and the offerings of numerous vendors. The Lawn has been ranked as one of the 10 best music venues in the Midwest.
