And why not? The mother-daughter bond is very special. So many shared experiences, so much to talk about. Yet, typically, so little time together, one-to-one. Just you and her. GOAirport Shuttle has uncovered quite a few wonderful and original ideas to help you celebrate this Mother’s Day across the country. Get mom on the phone and head out, it’s time to party!
With all the goofy weather patterns now gone, hopefully, and spring flowers starting to break through, getting outside is on everyone’s list. Of course, a big splurge would be getting you and your mom out of town to a different city. We’ve gathered some ideas for some of our most popular destinations, but you can probably find similar Mom’s Day activities wherever you live. No need to travel far.
Everyone loves the lakeshore, it’s one of Chicago’s most pleasant features. Just walking a portion, taking in Buckingham Fountain or Navy Pier would be a nice treat. There are brunch cruises you can book leaving from the Pier, as well as brunching on the largest rooftop deck in the country, offering amazing views of the Chicago skyline.
Or, give your mom the royal treatment at Chicago Hilton’s “Cafe du Mom,” a coffee/tea celebration featuring tastes from around the world held in the Imperial South Suite, a room converted for Queen Elizabeth when she visited Chicago.
For something musical, check out the World’s Greatest Mother’s Day Gospel Bowl #37, featuring a huge collection of famous quartet gospel singing groups, like the Hoskins Family and the Mickens.
Loaded with history, Boston offers classic Mom’s Day experiences with a twist. Seafood loving moms will have a field day with restaurant selections. But how about dining in the dark? There’s a blindfold dinner you could try, testing your palette and your courage. Mom might also like a candlelight concert, set in a beautiful historic building like the First Church. The music of Hans Zimmer and Adele are two of the current shows close to May 11. They have all sorts of concerts all over town. You might be able to find the work of mom’s favorite performer for another date.
Chicago may have the lakeshore, but LA gives you miles and miles of ocean to take in. What could be better than brunch on the beach? There are plenty of excellent restaurants: from Malibu Beach (Malibu Farm), to Manhattan Beach (Strand House), to Seal Beach. Go inland a bit and the Getty Museum could satisfy two hungers: for art and food. You’ll find a ton of good Mothers Day options here.
How about some exercise? Echo Lake offers bikes for rent and you could spend time at the huge Echo Lake Craft Fair held every weekend.
Could both you and mom use a laugh? Comedy clubs show up all over LA, from the LA Improv, to the Groundlings, to the Comedy Store. Here’s a list of the top shops in town. Someone’s bound to have a Mom’s Day spin.
Tired of all the brunching? There’s only so many egg dishes you can eat. For 39 years Dallas has been doing something different: the Bagel Run, a simple 5k, 10k, Kid’s K course to get your heart pumping. And of course, bagels. They call it “The Mother of All Bagel Runs.”
If running is too strenuous, how about a friendly game of pickle ball? There are two Chicken n Pickle locations in the Dallas area. Actually, they have quite a few other locations that might be closer to home.
And if exercise is completely off the platter, you and your mom might be interested in a Charcuterie Board Workshop, where you’ll learn the art and skill of preparing world class appetizer trays for all your parties to come.
You know what they say: Go big, or don’t go at all! So check out the weekend package for Mother’s Day activities through the Knickerbocker Hotel in New York. You’d be amazed at how much they can fit into a weekend of fun around town. Food, theater, parks, art, you name it.
If you want to go off on your own, you might think about a Mom’s Day dinner cruise around Manhattan itself. The skyline never looked better. Or, a Horse and Carriage Ride Around Central Park. The park in May should be beautiful. Look for an “official” horse and carriage.
San Francisco offers so much to do on Mother’s Day, you might want to start early to get everything in. Why not begin with a walking/touring breakfast through Chinatown or the North Beach (Italian) area? Then head over to Golden Gate Park for a performance from the Golden Gate Park Band, now in its 143rd year. Wind back to Pier 39 for more food and entertainment, followed by a nighttime performance of Mamma Mia at the Orpheum Theater. There are other mom-oriented theatrical events all around the city. Find out more here.
Hopefully, we’ve given you some ideas you could investigate no matter where you live. And if you want to hang close to home, a nice little treat might be to have you and your mom shuttled around town without having to worry about traffic and parking. Check out the list of cities where GO Airport Shuttle offers car service around town. Just sit back and relax, and enjoy some quality time together with your mom!
